El Paso Community College celebrated the release of the 2026 edition of Chrysalis, its literary and arts publication, during a release party Oct. 2 at The Falstaff.
The event featured readings by contributors to the new issue and an art exhibit showcasing visual art published in the 2025 and 2026 editions. Ricardo Marrufo of The Barbed Wire Open Mic served as master of ceremonies.
Chrysalis publishes original work by EPCC students, faculty, staff, alumni and members of the El Paso community. The publication includes poetry, fiction, nonfiction, drama, visual art and photography in English and Spanish.
Student editors take part in each stage of the publication process, including reviewing and selecting submissions, editing, design and planning the release event. The publication also gives students experience in publishing, collaboration, literary evaluation and community outreach.
“Chrysalis gives our students the opportunity to see their creative work become part of a larger literary and artistic community,” said Minerva Laveaga Luna, Chrysalis faculty adviser. “Just as importantly, students working as editors gain hands-on experience in publishing, collaboration, and event planning. The release event brings all of that work together and gives us an opportunity to celebrate the writers and artists whose work makes each issue possible.”
Founded to celebrate the creative voices of the region, Chrysalis provides a space for emerging and established writers and artists to share their work, engage in craft and contribute to the cultural record of the El Paso/Ciudad Juárez/Las Cruces area.
More information about Chrysalis and ways to get involved is available on the EPCC Chrysalis webpage.
