The City of Socorro held its second annual Business Expansion Summit on Nov. 19 at the El Paso Community College Mission Del Paso Campus, bringing together more than 80 attendees from small, medium and large industries.
The summit featured opening remarks from Mayor Rudy Cruz and a presentation by the University of Texas at El Paso’s HUNT Institute on Socorro’s business environment. The city said its growth has attracted companies including Maersk and Wiwynn, while tools such as Chapter 380 agreements are intended to create opportunities for local service providers, suppliers and small producers.
Cruz also highlighted Socorro’s Foreign Trade Zone 302 and the city’s 2025 Community Economic Development Award from the Texas Economic Development Council for its partnership with Wiwynn.
Representatives from the Small Business Administration, EPCC’s Small Business Development Center, Project Vida and Workforce Solutions Borderplex attended the event to connect with small businesses and industry partners. The summit was sponsored by GECU, Nusenda, Wiwynn, Balance Staffing, Roma Capital and CBRE.
