El Paso Animal Services’ annual Treat-a-Pet initiative lets families attach adoptable pet pictures to Halloween candy and help shelter dogs find homes.

El Paso Animal Services is bringing a lifesaving twist to Halloween with its annual Treat-a-Pet initiative, an activity that helps shelter dogs gain visibility among families looking to adopt.

The initiative’s flyer features adoptable dogs from the Westside Adoption Center. Many of the dogs have been waiting a year or longer for a family of their own.

Participants can download and print the Treat-a-Pet flyer, cut out the pet pictures along the dotted lines, and tape each picture to a piece of Halloween candy. The treats can then be handed out to trick-or-treaters, helping spread information about the dogs and the #AdoptEP message.

Animal Services describes Treat-a-Pet as an easy activity for the whole family. Children can take part while learning about helping animals in need, and the pet pictures may reach someone who is ready to meet a new companion.

The initiative encourages residents to make Halloween a little more special by supporting shelter pets. A picture attached to a piece of candy could help connect an adoptable dog with someone searching for a new best friend.

The Treat-a-Pet initiative was highlighted by El Paso Animal Services on Oct. 21, 2026.
