The El Paso Independent School District Board of Trustees has unanimously selected Dr. Brian Lusk as the district’s lone finalist for Superintendent, a decision made with full support from all seven board members. The Board expressed strong confidence in Dr. Lusk’s ability to advance EPISD’s mission of delivering high-quality education to every student.
Board President Leah Hanany praised the selection, underscoring the collaborative effort behind the process.
“El Paso ISD’s Board of Trustees is proud to name Dr. Brian Lusk as our next Superintendent,” Hanany said. “We look forward to working with Dr. Lusk as we focus on what matters most — our students. I am grateful for the thoughtful leadership and commitment each board member brought to this process.”
Dr. Lusk brings more than 30 years of experience in public education. He currently serves as the Deputy Superintendent of Schools and Academics for Dallas ISD, where he oversees 228 schools and guides districtwide academics, counseling, college and career readiness, innovation, and athletics. His career includes roles as a teacher, principal, executive director of schools, deputy chief of schools, and Chief of Strategic Initiatives.
His academic background includes a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, a master’s degree in educational administration, and a doctorate in educational leadership and policy from the University of Texas at Austin.
Trustee Valerie Beals emphasized the strength of the superintendent search process.
“Our search was truly successful and showed what can happen when a board works together with focus, respect, and commitment,” she said. “The long hours and careful steps we took all paid off. I could not be more proud of the integrity and teamwork displayed by this board.”
The search was facilitated by the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB), which helped gather community input and ensured a transparent process that reflected the voices of students, staff, families, and the broader EPISD community.
Under state law, the Board must now observe a 21-day waiting period before formally naming Dr. Lusk as Superintendent. The Board has also submitted a signed joint statement affirming its unified support for this selection.
EPISD leaders and staff welcome Dr. Lusk and look forward to the experience and vision he will bring as he prepares to lead the district into its next chapter.
